MSISC HOLDS SEMESTER RETREAT

The Minority Serving- Institution Student Council (MSISC) kicked off the semester by holding their 2021 in-person fall retreat on Saturday, August 21st.  The learning outcomes for the retreat were:

Strengthen commitments and connections to council and fellow council members through participating in get-to-know-you and team-building activities

Explain foundational knowledge (i.e., history, purpose) about Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs), particularly about the dual MSI designations

Demonstrate confidence in their roles as MSISC members through engaging in reflections around what successful advocacy or organizing looks like

MSI STUDENT SUCCESS SUMMIT

On September 24, 2021, President Keith E. Whitfield will host an MSI Student Success Summit for the campus community in the Student Union.

Whitfield will kick off the summit, sharing his vision for student success at UNLV, and the university’s role and responsibilities as a Minority-Serving, Hispanic-Serving and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving institution.

The summit will be open to all faculty, staff, and students. The summit will include plenary sessions by UNLV experts on equity and inclusion, exploring:

  • What MSI means for UNLV
  • Best practices in educational equity

BACK ON TRACK FEATURED MODERATOR: DR. TIFFANY B. MFUME

Dr. Tifanny B. Mfume, Assistant Assistant Vice President for Student Success and Retention at Morgan State University, will lead two BACK ON TRACK roundtable discussions: one for faculty and staff; and one for students on best practices for assisting students on academic probation. The faculty/staff roundtable will include tactical advice related to programmatic successes and challenges; addressing remote learning in the midst of a pandemic; and best practices for assisting students on academic probation. MSISC CAP & GOWN RELIEF PROGRAM

Nearly 3,000 graduate from UNLV during spring commencement ceremonies | Las  Vegas Review-Journal

Its commencement time and the Minority Serving Institution Student Council is proud to announce a Cap & Gown Relief Program. The program is designed to assist graduates who will be participating in the May 2021 Commencement who are experiencing financial hardship with their graduation regalia fees.

Students must complete the online application from April 12-19, 2021 to confirm your financial need and gown size. Applications will be reviewed. Funds are limited.
