Dr. Tifanny B. Mfume, Assistant Assistant Vice President for Student Success and Retention at Morgan State University, will lead two BACK ON TRACK roundtable discussions: one for faculty and staff; and one for students on best practices for assisting students on academic probation. The faculty/staff roundtable will include tactical advice related to programmatic successes and challenges; addressing remote learning in the midst of a pandemic; and best practices for assisting students on academic probation. This virtual roundtable is scheduled for Tuesday, June 15 @ 10:00 a.m. Registration by June 1 is required. Later that day @ 11:00 a.m., Dr. Mfume will have an open and candid conversation with students giving them much-needed advice, tools, and strategies to get off academic probation. About Dr. Tiffany B. Mfume: As the Assistant Vice President for Student Success and Retention manages new student and parent orientation, placement testing, Starfish Retention Solutions’ Early Alert and Connect systems, first-year advisement, financial literacy, alumni mentoring, and academic recovery among other programs and services. Dr. Mfume’s leadership has helped to promote ten-point increases in both retention and graduation rates. Morgan’s Office of Student Success and Retention (OSSR) being selected as national winners of the 2017 Hobsons Education Advances Award for Student Success and Advisement, the 2016 Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) Turning Points: From Setback to Student Success Award, and the 2015 Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) Project Degree Completion Award serves as evidence of the effective student success model at Morgan State University. Morgan is the only HBCU to ever have won these national awards. Dr. Mfume is author of the nationally recognized book, What Works at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs): Nine Strategies for Increasing Retention and Graduation Rates, published in 2016 by Rowman & Littlefield. Her second book, The College Completion Glass—Half-Full or Half-Empty? Exploring the Value of Postsecondary Education was released by Rowman & Littlefield in December 2018. Dr. Mfume is a sought-after consultant and speaker in postsecondary education; she provides problem solving, strategy, mentorship, analysis, and planning assistance to her peers and colleagues.
